Absorb what is useful, discard what is useless, and add what is specifically your own – Bruce Lee
AI agents are on the rise. Big promises, but only a few large operational successes. This scarcity stems from a disconnect between consumer needs and what enterprises offer. The gap is wide, and growing. We need more straight talk. Plain language descriptions of the current state, and future ambitions. Because high expectations needs grounding in practical and pragmatic solutions that show how interconnected capabilities, emerging technology, big data, and talent will get the job done.
Interestingly, within five years, the terms “AI” and “agents” will become obsolete (Gahner, 2024) as they seamlessly become part of our everyday. Until then, we need to continually seek to gain a shared awareness of the current state that will enable empowered execution of the many towards the future state.
Hence, I’m writing to bridge the communication gap and establish a shared language for discussing AI agents. I do this for my selfish drive to understand deeply the adjacent possible agentic futures. It is the only way for me to navigate such a complex and fluid problem space. And of course, hopefully, these pages with prove useful and useable to others in the same way that my content modeling series did.
Enjoy!
